About Mimi
Mimi Maumus is the chef /owner of home.made catering in Athens, Georgia. Born & raised in New Orleans, Mimi enjoyed regional cuisine based on the change of seasons and local availability. Her family’s garden included mirlitons, figs, tomatoes, green beans, and pecans which her father would transform into classic Louisiana dishes and southern favorites. Weekends fishing at Shell Beach led to days spent in the kitchen with her family, listening to music and cooking trout meuniere, stuffed flounder, blackened redfish, and boiled crabs.
Mimi’s grandmother, Jane LeGardeur, (aka: Ma) enjoyed canning the food grown in her garden. Ma shaped Mimi’s love of cooking preserves, pickles, and chutneys. Her pepper jelly was a prized gift during the holidays, as was her tomato chutney, bread & butter pickles, and strawberry jam.
Mimi began cooking in restaurants while earning degrees in psychology & sociology and soon realized that she was meant to be a chef. She has spent the past six years working directly under award winning chef Hugh Acheson, as Catering Director & Executive Sous Chef at the critically acclaimed 5&10 restaurant in Athens, Georgia.
Currently Mimi is busy impressing Athens, Georgia, with her surprising and exciting twists on classic southern cuisine. She has the magical ability to transform and invigorate everything from black eyed peas to deviled eggs. (Her wildly popular pimiento cheese straws are the stuff dreams are made of.) Yet Mimi is the real deal, and the secret to her success isn’t really a secret at all: she always uses fresh ingredients & makes everything from her cornmeal crackers to her green tomato pie from scratch. Always.
